It's hard to believe how much restoration work Paramount put into this classic. Any movie lover is sure to appreciate this silent classic! The clarity and detail of this print is outstanding! And the new 5.1 DTS-HD soundtrack is great too. They did wonders with the added sound effects during the fight scenes. This Blu-ray really blew me away! The documentation on the restoration process of this classic is also very informative. I saw it before making the film and I appreciate the time people took to recreate this beauty. Some will like the "detail" of the video, but I was struck by the clarity. I still like it when those old movies look like movies instead of videos. Just like Warner's KING KONG with all its heaviness, it still has the atmosphere and feel of classic films. So the question is, when is an image "too" clean? Do not get me wrong. I'm not complaining, but too much cleaning keeps me from these silent movies. The Blu-ray imported by Eureka featuring the movie SUNRISE is a great example of how the right amount of grain is left untouched. I'm not sure if Paramount used DNR but would be curious to know (I don't remember if it's mentioned in the recovery document or not). But if you are interested in upgrading to these Blu-ray WINGS, the answer is definitely YES! This is an amazing release! Don't forget to turn on surround sound!
