I love authentic flight scenes, oh and Clara Bow.

All I would add is my agreement that this film is unsurpassed in authenticity. No WW1 dogfight film since Wings has had pilots do all their camera work as they literally fly during their maneuvers and the main characters are real pilots. Everything we see on screen from the planes is real, not studio footage. And there are even some real WW1 planes (they basically crash, which is both cool and frustrating!). The relative costs involved were astronomical. If the producers had to come up with the

This is the best restoration ever! Because of this name I love Blu-Ray!

It's hard to believe how much restoration work Paramount put into this classic. Any movie lover is sure to appreciate this silent classic! The clarity and detail of this print is outstanding! And the new 5.1 DTS-HD soundtrack is great too. They did wonders with the added sound effects during the fight scenes. This Blu-ray really blew me away! The documentation on the restoration process of this classic is also very informative. I saw it before making the film and I appreciate the time people…

"Do you know what to do when you see a shooting star?

This new version of the classic silent film on Blu-Ray has been beautifully - and I'm sure with great effort - restored and remastered, a monumental achievement, especially given the film's age Negative . The film won its first Best Picture Oscar, then Best Production, and is the only silent film to have received this honor. It was mined by the great William " Wild Bill " Wellman, who was himself a WWI fighter pilot. His partner in the film was Richard Arlen. This story has a big love story…

A QUIET CLASSIC EXPLODES TO NEW HEIGHTS IN HD

In 1927, airplanes were the headlines. Charles Lindbergh made the first non-stop transatlantic flight, and Paramount Studios released one of the last great silent films, Wings. The unprecedented production of this film embodied the bold spirit of the 1920's as did Lindbergh's historic flight. He won the first Oscar for best picture and his breathtaking flight scenes remain among the best films ever made. Wings tells the story of two World War I flying friends (Buddy Rogers, Richard Arlen) and…

Out of whack, best in spares

I felt like about thirty minutes could be cut out of this movie. In the beginning, the scene where David says goodbye to his parents is too long and the mother's melodramatic acting collides with everyone else's fine acting. The scene in Paris where Mary tries to get Jack's attention while he's drunk takes too long. My guess is that since Clara Bow was a box office scam and didn't think she had enough work, from what I've read this scene was staged to give her a chance to look glamorous in a…

Movie Milestone

It's been a long time coming for Paramount to bring WINGS to DVD, but it was worth the wait. It's great to see this landmark film as it was meant to be seen and heard. I say "heard" because silent films were rarely watched in silence. Large city theaters had full orchestras to play either composed or composed music for a big film like Wings. Somewhat smaller theaters have a theater organ. The theater organ is very different from the church organ and can produce very realistic sound effects…
