The suction is not the best, but I press it with one hand and turn the handle with the other, it's not difficult at all. The cleaner works like a charm, even on uneven apples it does a great job, just a few seconds and it's clean. Note, however, that the blade is VERY sharp. So if you need to remove a small piece of peel, be careful. I spent most of the day hand peeling about 20 pounds of apples a few days before ordering. It took me just 30 minutes upon receipt to peel, core and slice 18lb larger apples. This knife only peels, does not core or cut, but manual peeling is tedious and time-consuming. Too bad that an extra blade was included. But this one looks like it's going to be a while.
