I've noted a few reviews about looking for disk cloning software, but there is an easier way. I bought this SSD for a mid 2012 Macbook Pro and it was as easy to install as any hard drive; I used the same process as numerous hard drive replacements. I'm using an external HD enclosure with a regular hard drive for backup. To install this SSD, I first installed it in the same enclosure and used Disk Utility to erase and reformat the drive. I then installed the SSD into the laptop and put my backup drive back into the external enclosure. I restarted the laptop (which then automatically booted from the backup drive) and once it booted up I chose the 'Restore from Backup' option. The system used the (external) backup drive to copy everything to the new SSD. It took about two and a half hours to transfer about 500 GB. Once this was done the system worked perfectly and was much faster than the old one! (This is exactly the same method I've used in the past to install a new hard drive.)
