Review on ๐ŸŽฎ 8Bitdo SN30 Pro Gamepad: Wireless Bluetooth Controller for Nintendo Switch and More by Joshua Reid

Hands down the best retro controller

First off, let me say yes, it's a bit pricey. I bought it to use with a Raspberry Pi which I have previously used a cheap XBox One controller that I bought for $20. Initially, despite the rave reviews I had seen for this product, I was hesitant to order it because the XBox controller worked well and I thought the tiny SNES-style controller would not be as comfortable. But after getting my hands on it and using it for a few days, I wouldn't go back to it. For 2D games there is no comparison. The D-Pad and buttons are much more responsive. I've tested this controller with Castlevania, Mega Man, Street Fighter II and a number of other games and it works flawlessly. There is no noticeable input lag and I was able to execute complex maneuvers with ease. Analog sticks feel great and are a good alternative if you don't fancy a d-pad. The shoulder buttons are firm and have a satisfactory actuation point, not at all soft like many controllers I've tried. Basically, if this thing had the Nintendo logo on the front instead of the 8bitdo logo, you wouldn't have a hard time convincing me that this is an official 1st party controller. The only negative I have is that I couldn't get any vibrations to work with RetroPie. It doesn't actually bother me and probably even saves battery life. I've seen a lot of reviews mentioning that vibration works with Switch, so it's probably RetroPie specific. Can I recommend it to someone as the main controller for playing modern PC games? Probably not, although you could definitely use it that way. But for emulation, it couldn't be better.
