Review on SunFounder Portable Raspberry Display 13.3" with Full HD 1920X1080 Resolution and 60Hz Refresh Rate by Jake Stewart

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good value for money for a Raspberry Pi display with two caveats.

The SunFounder Raspberry Pi Display IPS Portable 2 HDMI 13.3" Monitor is a great display for your Raspberry Pi 4 as well as most small computers. I tried it on three different computers and it worked pretty well. The display is sharp and clear. Even at full resolution, standard text reads effortlessly. This is exactly what I was looking for to work with my various small computers. I downgraded this device to four stars because of the included accessories and instructions, not the quality of the display. It should be a display for the Raspberry Pi and especially the latest 4B. Instructions and accessories should be produced for all models. You are not. The first problem concerns the supplied cables, which are said to be compatible with the new Pi4. The power cable for Pi4B is not included. I've just asked Revain to supply the missing cable, a micro USB to mini USB adapter. Interestingly, the matching HDMI cable is included. The other missing item is the specific instructions that come with the kit when an unwanted black border appears on the display. The included instructions work as expected with the new Pi4 but not with the original Pi1B which is still in production. However, I found a workaround for my old Pi1B. If you connect this display to an already running Pi1B you will most likely get a black border around the screen. In this case, ignore the special instructions and instead edit /boot/config.txt to do this: # Uncomment this if you see a black border with unused pixels on your display # and your display can output without overscan disable_overscan = 1 This setting is for the display that happens to Pi1B when you reinstall Raspian. Someone on the Raspberry Pi figured this out and made this patch instead of what works for the included Pi4B. I recommend this display to anyone using a small USB powered computer. It is clean, neat and tidy and looks very nice.
