5GHz stopped working after a few months

11/26/2018 - *edit* As of this past weekend the adapter often stops working and needs to be unplugged and plugged back in for it to work I purchased this USB adapter specifically for its 802.11ac support and although it has done some work it now cannot see our 5GHz broadcast. Bought in August, stopped working in November. Router dual band broadcast: - 2.4GHz broadcast - 5GHz broadcast 802.11ac, 802.11n (see attached image for broadcast specs) Our two TVs, our two phones and our wife's Win10 laptop can do ours Watch and connect to 5 GHz broadcast. My computer using the wireless adapter can see and connect to 2.4GHz broadcasts, but it can't even see 5GHz broadcasts. In the past I've been able to see and connect to our 5GHz broadcast, but at some point between a PC reboot, a router reboot, or a silent driver update, my PC can't even see it. Troubleshooting: 1 - I have changed the wireless mode on the adapter between 'Auto' and various other modes including '802.11ac'. 2 - I tried to update the driver 3 - I tried to roll back the driver 4 - I tried to remove the device in Device Manager and reinstall it from scratch 5 - I restarted the computer several times 6 – I tried the adapter in different USB ports. 7 - I viewed Netsh Wlan Show Interfaces and confirmed that my wife's laptop uses '802.11ac' to connect.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • In doubt

Poor signal, slow bit rate, huge set of install files, uninstall leaves files that won't delete.
