I have had K&N air filters on my cars for years. They used to improve mileage and performance. As a rule, now that the air-fuel mixture is controlled by the computer, they do not increase mileage, but improve performance. My car, a 2016 RAV4, is just over a year old and has about 12,000 miles on it, so I know how it accelerates with the stock filter. After driving a few miles while resetting the computer, the K&N seems to provide a noticeable boost in acceleration. That's the "fit the pants" reaction because I didn't time it. One of the attributes of all K&N replacement filters is that they always fit snugly and the rubber gasket around the edges of the filters is soft and pliable. Make sure that no air can bypass the filter. Although they cost about three times the price of a standard paper filter, the extra performance and reusability of the filters make them a worthwhile purchase. It's not that difficult to clean with the K&N Filter Recharge Kit.
