Review on πŸ’» Unlocked Desktop Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT with 8 Cores and 16 Threads by Will Lockhart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great processor to upgrade Ryzen 7 1700X and some tips before upgrade

My motherboard only supports up to 3000 series and this 3800XT is perfect. My old 1700X was showing signs of aging on some games. It only clocked up to 3.8GHz (I overclocked all cores to 3.8GHz to get a little more since I couldn't get a performance boost at 3.9GHz according to my testing). The base clock speed of the 3800XT is 3.9 GHz with boost up to 4.7 GHz. I'm not even thinking about overclocking and can extend the life of my motherboard (X370 chipset) and wait with a new socket AM5 (maybe next year?!) for new documentation to make sure you have a compatible version even if one BIOS update is required.2. Make sure you have thermal paste and alcohol (to remove the paste from the cooler). The 3800XT does NOT come with a cooler.3. Run Cinebench or another testing tool a few times before proceeding with the installation. This will soften the old CPU's thermal paste and make it easier to remove the cooler to install the new CPU.

Pros
  • Outstanding design
Cons
  • Legacy model
