What a greedy move. I'm building a PC for my wife and I've decided to take an ad-supported game and install it on my computer. Well it's not allowed. You must download the game on the same computer where the hardware is installed. AMD even forces you to download a hardware checker. I don't think it's free if I'm forced to download this game only where this company sees fit. I assume my upgrade will be with Intel in due course. Lame lame lame.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Can add

Item arrived but in poor (combination) packaging from Revain

Item appears visually intact when not installed, but that's another story when it comes to boxing this processor with to pack heavy objects. See photo. This is my first purchase of a CPU without a cooler, but the truth will be told when I put the CPU in and turn the power on. I hope everything is ok but that is questionable especially after they were in stock and it took 7 days (which maybe not necessary?) to get my prime membership - hopefully I don't have to return this and wait . This isn'tโ€ฆ

Great processor if you can get it under MSRP

I bought this processor along with a B550 Tomahawk for $450 on the best day and it works very well. I ran Prime 95 (CPU stress test) under the toughest conditions with Hyper 212 Black RGB cooler and Paste Arctic Silver 5. 84C on the toughest Prime 95 test. I was concerned about thermals since the cooler I'm using isn't as expensive as some Scythe or AIO coolers, but that really wasn't an issue. If you can get this processor for around $300, it's very competitive with the recently releasedโ€ฆ

3800XT. Fast but hot

Based on 2700x, the difference in performance is quite noticeable, especially on single-threaded tasks. However, unlike the 2700x, it has a chiplet design. This processor has a chipset with a total of 18 cores designed to run very fast, and since it's made on a 7nm process, it's EXTREMELY heat resistant and gets very hot. I have these in a well-ventilated case and have tried custom liquid cooling with a Corsair CPU water block, a Noctua NH-U14S and now a dual NHD15S fan. To be honest the paceโ€ฆ

Pros
  • is also understandable for the old
Cons
  • . Compatibility

Luckily I bought this when it was the same price as the $329 Micro Center. I went back to get another one and on August 21st 2020 it was closer to $400 and would have been worth buying 3900x instead, going to 3800x for $329 would be a kick in the face. I'm not sure why prices aren't consistently competitive with Micro Center. Although the processor can be said that it is excellent. Very future oriented and if you look at the performance over the years it is very similar to what you would expect

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Great processor to upgrade Ryzen 7 1700X and some tips before upgrade

My motherboard only supports up to 3000 series and this 3800XT is perfect. My old 1700X was showing signs of aging on some games. It only clocked up to 3.8GHz (I overclocked all cores to 3.8GHz to get a little more since I couldn't get a performance boost at 3.9GHz according to my testing). The base clock speed of the 3800XT is 3.9 GHz with boost up to 4.7 GHz. I'm not even thinking about overclocking and can extend the life of my motherboard (X370 chipset) and wait with a new socket AM5 (maybe

Pros
  • Outstanding design
Cons
  • Legacy model

Not 5800X, but 3800XT still very good processor

I have decided to build myself a new PC for Christmas. I wanted the 5800X but couldn't get it so I settled on the 3800XT. A hell of a lot has changed since the i7-7700K. AMD actually did a pretty good job of getting the best possible performance out of the 7nm TMSC silicon. Combine this processor with a quality motherboard and DDR4-3600 CL16 RAM (Crucial Ballistix is great for money and overclocking), set the infinite fabric and memory data rate to 1800-1900MHz in a 1:1 ratio, lower the timings

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
