Review on πŸ’» Unlocked Desktop Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT with 8 Cores and 16 Threads by Chris Cruz

3800XT. Fast but hot

Based on 2700x, the difference in performance is quite noticeable, especially on single-threaded tasks. However, unlike the 2700x, it has a chiplet design. This processor has a chipset with a total of 18 cores designed to run very fast, and since it's made on a 7nm process, it's EXTREMELY heat resistant and gets very hot. I have these in a well-ventilated case and have tried custom liquid cooling with a Corsair CPU water block, a Noctua NH-U14S and now a dual NHD15S fan. To be honest the pace was about the same. After a few weeks I gave up fighting the CPU, now I just leave it with PBO disabled in the BIOS, set a fairly long fan curve for the CPU fans and just let it run as is, only with enabled XMP. Either the 3900X or the 3700x will run cooler for various reasons. Overall very happy with the purchase. Very fast processor for gaming and streaming. Very happy with the purchase and yes I've been waiting for the 5900X but with the stock levels and prices of most computer components at the moment I was wanting to upgrade so here it is. :)
