The scissors were sharp but I wouldn't call them a hot knife through butter or anything. The clips are tight and made of sharp metal, making him reluctant to use them for cuts on my baby. I wish they were plastic or with plastic edges. I bought the whole set for children's haircuts. Overall pleased with a set that can get the job done. I wanted something cheap enough that I wouldn't cry to throw it out and replace it if after a few more cuts it got boring. I'll try sharpening it but I'm not sure what to expect there. The leather case is very beautiful.
