Review on 🎎 Kake-Jiku: Japanese Images Enhanced with Appliqué, Fabric Origami, and Sashiko Techniques by Kelly Caballes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

All appliqués are hand-sewn in these "blocks "; a series of small wall hangings.

I like the memories, 1-2 pages, stories from her childhood in Japan, and the drawings are beautifully presented. Her 15 designs are 19 x 19 inch blocks meant to be hung like the silk or paper scrolls she remembers from Japan. All are hand-sewn and quilted. The Chrysanthemum Moon cover is the best of 15. Attach some photos: The lantern and crane are almost as good as the cover. In this book that uses sashiko embroidery, they are minimal, as is the cover. This is an almost entirely handmade applique using a few fabric colors and minimal sahiko stitching. Although she uses Japanese-style fabrics and items less frequently, she will also be more difficult to find and craft yourself. I don't have any of her other books and this one doesn't inspire me to buy more, it doesn't inspire me that much. However, I might make one of these blocks as a gift, otherwise it's useless for my own projects.
