Did what it says on the tin

I have a 2018 Jeep Compass that has one of those engine start/stop functions. This feature stopped working when the original main battery (large) ran out. I did without the start-stop function for a while until the car even started. Battery life was 4 years. I bought this item. Came in a bag. I hooked it up to an OBDII port under the dash and a lead-acid motorcycle battery I had on hand (see photo). The thing is, you'll need an alternate power source for this item to work as it doesn't come with its own. I replaced my old (main) battery with a new one. After the new battery was put back my car started fine, my start/stop function worked again and most importantly, the car retained all of its memory including but not limited to air/fuel mixture, radios, driving style. etc. Definitely a good item when changing batteries that doesn't come around too often but costs less than twenty dollars. I think why not keep one in the trunk.

Pros
  • Using this simple memory saver when changing your car battery will help you avoid these problems. This device may be operated from any 12V DC power source, including a jump starter, a 12V DC lead-acid battery, or another vehicle's 12V DC outlet.
Cons
  • Almost everything is there
