. Multiple reasons why I should have bought this a long time ago and why I'm so glad I finally did! I ordered an Alvin rug just before Christmas and received my money before the holiday. Stress and wasted time due to extra caution is no longer a problem, this is a significant benefit that I hadn't thought of before, but which made me particularly grateful. I've cut and sliced with several sharp tools and only made a tiny cut* when applying ridiculous and totally unnecessary pressure to a small stack of cardboard with a utility knife (!), but even then the counter underneath wasn't even close to being damaged . The only adjustment required was for the mat to lay flat and flush with the sides of the slightly narrower workstation. My husband was able to fix this easily by adjusting a little on each side so the measurement markings are still visible from all directions. This rug is a simple five. Like everyone else, this review is my own; no connection to the manufacturer or seller. * To repair damaged rugs, Kelly Hanson of the National Quilter Circle recommends the following: - Lightly scrub the rug with a non-abrasive kitchen brush to remove anything that may be stuck to the surface. - Place mat in tub and soak in a solution of 1/4 cup white vinegar to 1 gallon cold water for 15 to 20 minutes. - Add a few drops of mild detergent and rub gently to remove anything that flaked off during the soak. - Dry with a soft cotton cloth or air dry. Make sure the mat lies flat throughout the process to avoid warping. If the tub is too small, you can use a large garbage bag or even a paddling pool to soak the mat. Preserve mat elasticity and remove imperceptible particles that prevent cuts from self-healing.
