First off, I had no idea this ball was as big as it is. Some of my students really like it and it doesn't "play" like the balls they are used to. It's big, bouncy, and heavy enough that its trajectory never goes as expected. It can take out smaller fifth graders, but it moves slowly enough that they can easily avoid it. I've seen my own life flash before my eyes once or twice while talking to a child or co-worker when a particularly powerful kicker threw something in my direction. Luckily, kids (so far) have been able to call my name and get my attention, giving me time to casually (or not so casually) get out of the way. After over a month of repeated daily use and countless warnings NOT to use the beanbag, the thing is a little deflated (just a little!) and not quite round, but that only adds to its charm. Two of my classes play kickball with him; the other two form games similar to games with Calvin's rules (remember Calvin and Hobbes?). Rules and procedures change seemingly daily. I know *I* can't keep up! Conclusion - my students had a lot of fun with this huge ball. It inspired teamwork, creativity, and an invaluable amount of laughter and goodwill for my children, and therefore for me.
