Revainrating 5 out of 5

Do-it-yourself USB 5V 2.1V charger. Drill, install, connect and charge.

I had gotten to a point where I was tired of lugging around bulky car chargers and needed more space for a GPS connection as my car is an old Acura Integra that is a bit technologically behind the times. So I updated it. Last time I had a rectangular USB charger but there was no cable or anything in the kit. I love that it even has a zipper and female connectors. I haven't installed this yet, but I need a hole saw drill bit. But I plan to buy at least 3 more because I have 3 integras. Hides on the side of the center console or on the emergency brake. Supplied with a 40" red and black positive and negative wire, fusible link charging connector, plus male and female cable ends, flat and round cable ends attached to the cable. 1 fuse installed 1 spare fuse (F10AL250V) Two USB inputs. Both 5V 2.1AC chargers are screwed onto a plastic nut to attach with a rubber plug that doubles as a washer on the back. 6 feet of wire. 40 inches is enough for me. Depending on the vehicle, however, a little more length may be required. Definitely recommend. There will be more. 1/1/8" Extra red, black wire for + and - wrenches or ground stud sockets. Wire cutters. Wire ends or connectors. INSTRUCTIONS DIY: (1 of 7 steps). 1 step determines placement of charging connector. 2 Drill and press Insert the plug, screw it in at the back. Drill a 1/1/8" round hole, maybe use the car cigarette lighter place if you don't smoke. under the dash, out of the footwell and away from the pedals.5 Locate a 12v power supply with a switch and connect the red wire. Consider replacing the end of the wire with a plug from the vehicle's factory fuse box. 6 Take the black wire and hide it and also find the fuse box fixing screw or alternatively and attach the ground wire to it. 7 Turn on the ignition switch test for power and see if the charger charges your devices to turn them on. Make sure it is connected to a switched power source, otherwise it may drain the car battery.

Pros
  • Built-in 10A fuses to protect plugs from overload.
Cons
  • Crumpled
