Easy install on 2002 Subaru

Perfect fit and easy install on 2002 Subaru Forester. hit the underside of the swing hard and grazed the windshield at the top of the swing, causing annoyance to passengers and rapid wiper wear. This repair completely solved this problem and was easy to perform. (for a backyard weekend, "change oil and brake pads yourself" level mechanic) By the way, this problem is caused by wear on the bushings in the old assembly, for which there is a hack on youtube to modify the bushings to they restore the old one ($10) but I figured why not get it right the first time ($50 for this kit) - my time is more important than the few bucks I would save. Procedure: 1. Remove the rubber bushings from the base of the wiper arm2. Remove the nuts from the wiper arm base and remove the wiper arms. 3. There are two of these plastic clips, one on each side of the hood, pry them out.4. The hood is held in place by a variety of plastic fasteners that can be loosened/released.5. Remove the 3 nuts at the base of each wiper arm6. There is a small plastic cover that is held onto the motor with plastic clips. Remove carefully to avoid breaking the clips7. Under the plastic flap is a screw that attaches the wiper lever mechanism to the assembly, remove it and without being guided remove the assembly to install a new one.8. Rock the assembly through the hatch opening until it disengages, then reverse these steps to reassemble. If I remember correctly I used 10mm, 12mm and 14mm sockets, a flathead screwdriver and large pliers to secure the motor, why re-tighten that screw. Be sure to turn on the wipers before attaching the shroud to ensure the assembly is properly aligned. I had to remove the bonnet to redo this as the wipers were left in their original 'up' position and not on the bonnet as they should.

Pros
  • Replacement restores proper operation of wiper system
Cons
  • Almost OK
