I have made many rugs with hooks. I paid "extra" to make sure there was a drawing on the canvas. Here are the problems: 1. The carpet was "finished" and that was a major selling point. However when they were done with the canvas they sealed the sides/bottom/top and instead of using an extra canvas the grid on the paper no longer matched, because you don't have the right number of rows/columns - so the template needs to follow the instructions and doesn't .2. Yarn (especially white) is not being cut properly and is difficult to thread through the fabric. I have to pull and push the yarn. I used yarn from another rug set that actually bleeds through the canvas easily. You really need to label all the colors on the yarn packs. Some kits will do that for you, this one doesn't. And the colors (especially the browns) are so similar that you can't put them together just by looking at them. for short rows - that's why we say crochet from the middle outwards. That way you at least get the illustrations of the dogs right and the sides will be a piece or two shorter. If you like the pattern, you're stuck with problems. I wanted a pattern with two dogs and it's a cute rug, but it took a lot of work. There are several companies that offer the same pattern and this one has a very colorful canvas print so I paid extra for it not knowing it didn't match the instructions. very disappointed at the top was not level and even crumbled. As the row was uneven, as you can see it wasn't possible to get a full green background behind the brown dog head because the row was sewn under the hem. Very nice carpet but very annoying, certainly not for a child. But the manufacturer has to fix the canvas - the white color is taken from another set of carpets, because the white paint provided was too thick for the canvas. The lime green was thin and in some rows I had to add two strands. This is a gift and as such I will not be returning; but I think the manufacturer should return the price as the kit didn't meet my expectations at all.
