Review on πŸ“ MAXUS Espresso Scale with Timer: Small and Handy Barista Scale for Perfect Coffee Brewing by Christine Velasquez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Why pay over $200 for something that can normally be done for around $12

Should I get Acaia Lunar or that? Acaia Lunar costs $225 at the time of this review. Acaia's advantages lie in its size (the ability to use an espresso scale) and smart features. The smart features have some benefits like measuring flow, timing start and stop based on when a shot is fired, recording your shots over time, etc. All of these are really nice to have. But I just want something to use under my espresso machine to get accurate readings for my shot. The timer is good too, but I have a watch and my phone can keep time too, so it's not necessary. I've been using this $12 scale for a few months now and absolutely love it. It's small enough to fit under my Flair 58. The timing feature is great and works like a timer. But mostly it's $12! There should be an option for those who don't need all the smart technology. I just want something small that will give me accurate readings. This matches all of the checkboxes I was looking for. Seems strong enough. I had no problem splashing water/coffee around the scale. I also like that it's a used on/off switch. I've used other cheap scales where the on/off button didn't do anything. So Acaia Lunar's smart features are good, but does it cost more than 18x? not for me. With these scales, I was able to get a delicious, consistent espresso. Maybe if I wanted to do thread profiling, Acaia might make sense. But for my needs this scale is amazing.
