I didn't think I would like the weight of this case, but I decided to give it a try because it was the only third-party smart cover I could find. At $16 compared to the $39 Apple Smart Cover (which doesn't protect the back or sides!), it wasn't easy. - The back is made of hard matte plastic that looks very nice and doesn't show fingerprints - The removable front cover still works to auto-wake/sleep the tablet on opening and closing - The cut-out on the back is perfect for passing through a pen loop to hold your Apple Pencil (the case has no strap, I bought it separately) - Allows you to charge your 1st generation Apple Pencil. Cons - The microphone cutout on the back does not match the iPad (see image). The cutout is below where it should be for the microphone. I haven't tried making video calls, so I don't know how this affects microphone usage. All other ports seem to be easily accessible - the magnets for the Smart Cover are on the weak side; the lid doesn't stay folded unless the iPad is resting on it - the TPU material covering the power button is pretty durable and it's hard to tell if you're pressing the button hard enough for it to work (eg .to take a screenshot) - MAY NOT be compatible with some thicker glass screen protectors - I noticed the edge of my case peeling off when I first put it on until I actually pressed on that corner to close the glass forcing it to lie under the bumper - the smart cover slides over the edge and the case detaches through the plastic groove and attaches to the groove with a thin strip of faux leather and more plastic. It's hard to tell how well it holds up over time. In general, I will keep the case, despite its shortcomings. It seems to protect my new Mini very well and will withstand the heavy use I will be put through as a student.
