I expected this book to receive unmatched acclaim. I like some of Plato's other works - the Philebus, the Apologia etc. I just didn't like it very much. There are definitely some great moments in the book and it's pretty well written, but it got a bit boring at the start of Book 9 and most importantly, I just couldn't take Plato's philosophical babble anymore. In this book he is in another world (La La Land). I agree with Aristotle that this is a joke as Plato felt it should be taken seriously (at least politically). I liked him both in terms of writing style and individual philosophy. My advice is to read it just for fun and pick out useful philosophical points.
