This is a single stage toy pump but for the price it actually works quite well. The compliance label states an ultimate vacuum of 5 Pa (or approximately 37.5 microns). I get about 120 microns with just a thermocouple sensor. Like most pumps, it will bubble up and spit out some oil when pumping a gaseous charge. A small trap will prevent this, I'll probably build one for that. I suspect the supplied oil is not a very good vacuum oil. It has a distinct odor, which is generally a bad sign if you can smell it, the vapor pressure of anything in it is non-trivial. I'll switch the oil to a good quality vacuum oil and see if it can pump a little less. Anything around 100 microns is pretty good for a single stage pump anyway, for $60 I'm not disappointed. No signs of the engine starting capacitor stalling or blowing up as others have reported, but I only ran it for about an hour. .
