I had an expensive sharpener that only lasted 1 year. just died That's why I wanted to buy it cheaper if it happened again. Not only did this make and model fit the bill, I had the opportunity to try it everywhere, in a second grade classroom. Sharpens perfectly, quickly and doesn't break the pencil tip. I've tried colored pencils and a good sharpener. I gave it 5 stars because it met my needs: inexpensive, small, and gets the job done. However, it's noisy and not very heavy, so you'll find it weak. It only has a standard size pencil hole, but that wasn't one of my requirements. I recommend it.
