According to the description, it automatically stops when the pencil reaches ideal sharpness. However, it never really stops. In fact, with my old one I could tell when it finished sharpening, I felt like it didn't do anything else, although it still worked. But THAT is terrible, it will keep eating the pencil until there is nothing left! It never ends! I don't know if it's defective or what, but it's a huge waste of money.

I had one of these in my office in the 90's before I switched to mechanical pencils. Same manufacturer etc. I put my pencil in, it went out and a perfectly sharpened pencil came out. You can't do that with this sharpener. Dollars for donuts if I disassembled this pup I would find 2-3 clumsy blades because the noise this thing makes is awful.
