They had a good idea with this drill, but unfortunately it already has 3 main problems: 1. The column tube is too thin for the weight of a hand drill (I have a 8.5A DeWalt). Any pressure on the drill will cause the drill to deviate from the vertical axis (back and forth) by up to 1/8"2. The same locking mechanism that allows the drill to rotate 90 degrees will not let it stand perfectly vertical - the drill stays tilted a few degrees while the lock is at zero and there is no more room for the knot to rotate..3.The clamp is 20 mils wider than a standard 43mm drill without having to use any of the supplied plastic inserts. Also, the thinnest plastic insert in the kit is still too thick, making it difficult to insert the drill into the clamp. And even when installed, a plastic insert is not a good thing with a 1hp drill motor Idea.I was boxing mine up for a return and was about to send it back when I decided to look for alternatives.Well it's easy to find that the Unitec drill jig is the only real alternative is, and it costs literally six times as much... Then I unpacked this stand and ordered heavy-duty stainless steel tubing for the column. deflection (this tube costs almost as much as this stand) and then grinds some material out of the 90 degree locking mechanism to maybe provide an extra 1/32" of travel to be able to position the drill bit in the really correct position. 0 degrees vertical and then 10 mil thick copper or similar material is used in place of the plastic crimp insert. We hope that together these measures will make this booth usable.
