Absurdly slow write times

3+ days after my Time Machine backup (about 2TB) started copying, the copying process is still ongoing. When the copy finally failed, it said "2 hours left". I immediately rebooted and here I am 7 days after it all started and it says '2 days left'. Incidentally, this new drive was purchased to replace another drive that was taken out of service after a catastrophic failure in which all data was lost. That drive was Seagate. So disappointed.
