Rise at the waist as in the photo.
For many years the rise was below the belly button and now creeps back to the natural waist. I have a short waist and the height is true to my natural waistline. I prefer a lower fit (in fact, at 5ft 7 I sometimes get petite for the right fit), especially in the summer. Everything else about these shorts is perfect. They are cut very nicely and you can wear them to workouts or just to run errands. You are so presentable. It's stretchy comfortable fabric and lots of details. I found them the right size. I weigh 138 pounds and ordered M. I'm glad I got into the flash sale.
