Yes you can use a rotating pointer to sharpen these rods but you must be careful with this or it will break inside the pointer as it is not as hard as the graphite rods you use in the use pointers. and they take pictures when your camera is set to color setting, it's not bad but it's there and i even tried to take a picture of them in monochrome setting and it still picked something i like don't know if I was too clumsy with them or no, and maybe that's why I took a picture, or maybe it's not a picture on a copier or scanner, I don't know, but it will take pictures. therefore four out of five stars.
