Best Cutting Gauge in the $10 Range

Overall this is a better buy than comparable quality western style gauges. You have to understand that this is a $10 caliber so quality will vary widely and will need fine tuning. I sharpened the blade and beveled the wedge and shank heads to keep them from cracking and removed a few fuzzy bits here and there. The blade is just a stamped piece of steel, it's solid and cuts both soft and hard woods well. You will also need a small hammer to set and tighten the gauge, finger tightening will not work. It doesn't matter if the handle or blade is non-square or square, all that matters is that the handle can be tightened and retain its setting.
