Review on Template Clamshell Finished Quilters Paradise by Morgan Gilmore

I consider myself an advanced crafter. This was my first rollaway comforter, but not the first one with a Y-seam or a curved part. There aren't many clamshell templates available, so I just crossed my fingers and tried these. I liked the idea of using the slots as alignment notches, but it didn't work. Too much free space in each slot so they never align properly. They worked great to counteract the volume of the curves and I didn't have to crop anything other than what's on the template. I liked the included non slip stickers to prevent slipping, they worked really well. I wasn't happy with the instructions that came with it and eventually found another way that worked better. I also didn't use an extra pattern to start the first line because I didn't feel it was necessary. The main thing I want to include in the template are the holes for the seam guides in the corners (which I think is a pretty big problem). When sewing Y-stitches, you need to start and stop exactly on the seam line, and I had to mark all of that myself. I was having trouble making this match and it resulted in a lot of inaccuracies during the build. The quality of the template is very good, but I don't think I'll use it again. The finished quilt was pretty good for my first try, but I would choose something with starting and ending sewing points marked (if I could find such a pattern). And the last remark, which has nothing to do with the template. Clamshell design is inherently wasteful to cut. I used 6 yards of fabric and ended up with a 50" x 60" blanket.
