Opticron Savanna 8x30 Porro Prism Binoculars: Review by Dennis

I ordered the Opticron Savanna WP 8x30 WP 8x30 binoculars on 11/16/16 and it arrived on the 18th. Everything in the retail box was well packaged and included a soft pair of binoculars, a case and binocular straps, a cleaning cloth and literature. The lens caps fit well but I would only use them in a bag. The rain cover is flexible enough to be used without changing the IPD. The center focus wheel worked smoothly and the diopters, while a bit harsh, should stay where you put them. My first sight of the savannah was a pleasant experience. The field is wide, but I noticed I couldn't see everything, so I turned the eyecups a little less than halfway, and that helped. However, I had to move my eyes to see the full view. I suspect it has to do with the width of the field of view or possibly the large eye relief. It took a little effort to position my eyes correctly, but once I did, the view was great. (This isn't a complaint, just an observation.) To my satisfaction, the "golden spot" was fairly wide, but remained sharp enough with minimal blurring at the edges. Also, I didn't notice a barrel or pincushion and the collimation was excellent. I was impressed with the brightness and contrast of the image while the colors were accurately reproduced. The depth of field is wonderful. Even when focusing at infinity, objects I assumed were about 40 feet away were still sharp. . I didn't see any chromatic aberrations, although they can be present under certain conditions. The build quality is excellent and although the rubber armor is smooth, it still offers good grip. Binoculars are located directly in front of the eyepieces. The balance is good and I had no problem holding it steady. Overall, I find the Opticron Savanna WP 8x30 porro prism binoculars to be a very good product, despite all the shortcomings. And I will never add "for the price".
