Review on 🐠 Aquapapa Corner Filter: Efficient Air-Driven Bio Sponge Ceramic for Nano Fish Tank Aquarium (Ship from CA USA) by Robert Smithlin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent filter; not hard enough yet.

The Aquapapa angle filter is in no way marked as such. It's Xin Yu, whatever that means. It's not really a problem, just a statement of fact. The filter itself is made of acrylic plastic and is therefore more brittle than ABS or PVC material. Don't drop it. It's about the size of a softball, so it takes up very little space in a 5-gallon tank. They take up a decent amount of floor space in my 2.5 gallon bladder snail breeder, but a vertical surface is just as good as a horizontal one if you're a snail. The water flow is huge! Completely disproportionate to its size. It actually keeps the water clean in that dirty little tank, and since the water runs sideways along the surface, the snails don't get in the way. Now for the main downside: weight! The filter is too light and buoyant to work without adding weight. It comes with the usual junk biocarrier these things always have, cheap ceramic rings, plus a handful of pebbles they scooped up from the factory lot. Not even close enough to make it negatively buoyant. I filled it with high quality sintered glass balls and finally I had to add stainless steel ball bearings before I made it sink! Tape and fill a 1/4 inch layer of steel balls or ball bearings with aquarium safe epoxy. That's what I'll do if I buy another one.

Pros
  • Constant test results
Cons
  • I don't like it, everything is fine
