So far they seem very safe.
I am very happy with it. After using a competitor's paver for a year (it worked really great at the time, I really liked it) and after being told about "adapters" I was able to use it to work with my new car. Misinformation about what should actually be easy, I chose Thule instead. I have a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with Subaru Aero Bars. This stacker keeps her secure and we have attached our 2 12ft kayaks to it with no problem. I took a large pool noodle to use as a cushion on the crossbars and it seemed to work fine.
