I bought this tripod to use for standing rifle hunting and photography. Excellent performance in both scenarios. I wouldn't say this size and weight is for light travel, but it definitely saves weight compared to other tripods of this size and thickness. When using a tripod with a rifle or even a camera, you need to get it as close to the dish/head as possible. This will give you better stability. As such, retractable necks on traditional tripods are convenient, but sacrifice stability for the sake of convenience. This isn't such a big deal as you can just drop the pole all the way down, but then the bottom end limits how low you can set the tripod. This is where this design excels. If you put your feet on the widest notch you can shoot your rifle prone or do those low shots and videos. Rubberized twist locks make it easier to fix and adjust the legs. Half a turn is enough. The soft case is also of excellent quality. Definitely I would continue to buy this brand over much more expensive RRS or Pro media devices. You have small benefits at twice the price.
