Overall pretty good

This is a good player and the recording feature is very useful. I first bought a black used one which was defective so I exchanged it for a new white one. So I'm basing my review on both 450USB players, black and white. I'll start with the lid. I can see that some people like it, but for me this cover is offensive enough to deduct a star. Here's why: 1. The lid doesn't keep dust out as it's open on all sides, so it really doesn't do the job as a lid. 2, The cover needs to be completely removed and placed elsewhere to play the record. I don't care at all about its "display" function. For me it's just something that's lying around unnecessarily when I'm playing a record. 3. You can't just leave the record on the platter when it's done and cover it with the lid closed. The cover rests on the record, so it is necessary to remove the record from the player before installing the cover. 4. With a black player, the cover is dark. Dark enough not to see the tone arm. I imagine this could lead to repeated beatings on the tonearm and eventually damage to the tonearm. The white turntable has a frosted transparent cover, so the user can see the tonearm put the cover on, which is better. This brings me to another unique feature of this player. With the 450USB you can burn CD quality WAV files directly to a USB stick. That's nice! I have never tried the mp3 function and never will, it makes no sense. I load the files into the free program Audacity, edit and annotate them as I wish. Better yet, record the player's signal on an external solid-state recorder. This is the best option as it would be possible to record a higher quality file but would require an amplifier with an audio output in addition to the recording device. Unfortunately, receiver manufacturers have completely abandoned this feature in the last 15 years, leaving the need for either a vintage amp or a new audiophile amp. After all, Denon is the cheaper option. After all, the CD quality recording isn't bad, and if you want a better quality option, that can still be added in the future. Please note that not all USB sticks will work. Even though I got a fancy USB 3 drive with a very high transfer rate, it didn't work. I called Denon for the approved disc list but they don't have anything so I guess it's trial and error. A cheaper/older drive from the local office store seems to work fine. When the USB stick is inserted and recording is activated, the LEDs on the front are very bright and, to be honest, could be a little less bright. Also, I don't like that a single light is visible through the plastic of the white turntable. That makes it thin and cheap. This was not a problem for the black player. However, when it comes to finishes, the white is preferable IMO as the black platter shows all the dust and fingerprints. Overall this player is not perfect but it is a very good player with a unique wav recording feature that influenced my purchase decision. I use an Ortofon pen and shell on it and it sounds good. I don't think I have enough audiophile system or hearing to go into all the specifics of why this turntable sounds better than others. All I can say is that I enjoy listening to records on it and love the ability to record your annotations. for the street.
