Grip too tight, valve won't close

When I opened the package I noticed the two were stuck together (on the side of the ball) when I pulled them apart I cleaned and lubricated that I was going to install the release valve with Thetford grease. I installed the gasket and also used ball valve grease. It took about 3 flushes, the ball didn't close all the way, the 4th flush was an attempt to close the valve when my pedal broke, there are no parts for the Dometic 310 so now I have to buy a new toilet. .
