Review on πŸ’Ύ Patriot Memory Burst 240GB SATA III SSD Internal Solid State Drive 2.5" - Retail Package Bulk 10 Pack by Devin Lee

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good price for an entry-level SSD. Do not use the operating system on your PC as main memory.

The 240GB Patriot Memory Burst SSD is good low-end non-primary OS storage for about $31. Installing SSDs is easy: when you connect, make sure you use the Windows Disk Management feature so you can assign a drive letter to make it visible on your PC. I use it as a portable SSD to transfer and store files between systems. As for the disadvantages of Patriot Memory Burst, two stand out the most: 1) The official software (called SATA Tool Box or Phison Tool Box) for Firmware Update, SSD Summary, SMART, Optimization and Secure Erase doesn't even recognize them SSD. I tried different configurations and checks to detect it. It's not worth the effort, the software is just rubbish (trust me on this one). So if you decide to buy, you can't do that. 2) The transmission speed is doubtful. I'm running this from a USB 3.1 port and the max write speed I got was an average write speed of 70-80MB/s (I've attached a screenshot of the write speed for 142GB files for reference). It hit 200MB/s, but only for a very short "burst". This speed will not be maintained for more than 30 seconds after the first recording. My other brands of SSDs of the same configuration support 300-400+ MB/s to completion. Overall, the value of the SSD for me personally makes up for the disadvantages since I only use it as a portable USB SSD. I wouldn't recommend using it as the main SSD in your PC settings. $31 for a 240GB SSD is hard to beat right now.
