First I want to solve the smell problem. I almost bought it based on people's reviews that the chemical smell is terrible. My bed had a very, I mean very faint odor. My engineer husband explained that this is called outgassing or outgassing, like a new car smell that goes away over time. The plastic in the outer part of the bed dries first, and then in the middle, which is what causes the smell. It will pass and it is not dangerous. I have to repeat that the smell was barely noticeable and is now gone. I must have looked ridiculous sniffing the whole bed. The next gripe that reviewers complain about is that it doesn't heat enough. The heating pad does not feel too warm at first. When my cat finally decided to come out (he literally jumped when I set him up) he felt nice and warm. You don't want to cook your cat. It's only 4 watts, very little heating, but it raises the temperature to a point where cats are very comfortable, cozy, warm and safe. It's well made and wasn't difficult to close, just place each piece next to each other. I really love it! There is plenty of space, my cat claimed to be a big boy, he was able to sit in the pod to tidy himself up and while he was lying down there was plenty of room for him. A great safe place that most cats will enjoy. 2 of my 4 furbabies have been in it and 2 others are more cautious but I know they will try. I have several versions of K&H heated beds in my house and cats love them as much as I do. I highly recommend this cool looking pod!
