Before this Dell monitor, I tried Viewsonic and ASUS; both had better performance (faster m/s, better contrast), but even after fine-tuning, the image never looked right (not sharp enough, too blurry). Also, the stand that came with ASUS was very flimsy - it held the monitor at an angle, rocked back and forth, and its base was a fingerprint and scratch magnet! This monitor is free from all these problems. The picture looks perfect right out of the box (I installed the drivers from the CD that came with it, but that's just to keep it up to date). The stand and base are beautiful and durable. The bezel around the display panel is made of softer plastic than other monitors I've tried, but that doesn't matter (you don't realize it until you press it). A few other notes compared to other monitors: - The packaging is all cardboard, not foam, so there's less clutter during the initial setup - All buttons are on the front of the frame (not the bottom) - No HDMI port , but I use an HDMI-to-DVI cable and it works great (as far as I know, HDMI and DVI generally look better than VGA) - there's a plastic pad on the back of the frame, as well as a groove in the stand; You can run your cables through them to keep them a little more organized
