I have just received this dryer model # B0D04 - which has a sticker after that number ("RG1 /3" ) - I haven't figured out what that means - but this dryer can't adjust 4 1/2 inches in any way or at all. The picture on the box shows additional detail at the bottom of the pillar, but it appears to have been changed. After reading the comment I think the manufacturer changed it due to instability or breakage at the time. I'll add a comment on the main purpose (drying hair) after using it, but I checked the heat control and the hottest spot is just behind my part. There's a significant enough difference in heat levels, and the cool setting confirms that the main "fan" is just behind the crown, as mentioned. Drying hair. It took me a little while to find the right spot, but I focused on getting it on the kitchen table and adjusting the height of the chair. I don't use big curlers, my hair is not long but thick enough. The time was about 30 minutes, and after 20 minutes I reduced the heat to medium. Of course it's noisy, but I was fine. And it's so beautiful that you don't have to hold a hair dryer in your hands! A word of caution: use extreme caution when opening and closing this device - slide the back under the tongue before closing the latch on the front.
