I have owned and worked with several label printers over the past 20 years and it is best to connect a label printer to a computer. I have to constantly reapply labels for work (I print about 96 labels). Every time I re-stick labels), and with traditional P-Touch label printers, I've spent a lot of time finding the right format for my labels, cutting them to the right length, and reprinting them because I couldn't too tight or cut the label under the corner and it didn't look good. In addition, I wasted a lot of ribbon as my label printer could only hold a certain number of characters before I had to print, forcing me to have waste at the beginning and end of the print. Now I know I can print up to 40 inches of labels at a time and only lose the first inch. Also, I can create each label with the font(s) of my choice and with any number of lines. Alternatively, I can tell the software to only print labels on sheet 15, or to print a series of labels per sheet. Speaking of leaves, I want to talk about software. Someone else here mentioned that the software isn't very flashy, and I agree. It's simple and easy to use. The big difference between the Mac and Windows versions is that you can have multiple sheets in the Windows version. What are multiple sheets? If you've been using Excel, you've probably seen Sheet 1, Sheet 2, and Sheet 3 tabs at the bottom of the screen. The same goes for the P-Touch Editor, which is great as each project I do requires labels of different sizes, allowing me to have one master file instead of 9-12 different files per project. When using the Mac software you only get one sheet and when you try to open a file you edited in the Windows version you only see the first sheet you created in the Windows version . The only thing I would like to change about this product is that the Mac version should be comparable to the Windows version. Of course, since you have to search the Brother website in Japan to find Mac drivers and Editor software, it's better to ask them to make a US version of P-Touch Editor and adapt it to the Windows version. Bottom line: if you are serious about labeling, buy this printer or any other printer that can be connected to a PC. If you print a few labels occasionally, just buy a regular Brother P-Touch printer.
