Review on Midland AVPH2 Closed 🎧 Face Helmet Headset with GMRS Compatibility by Mark Gilbert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for paintball goggles

I took this headset and the open face headset to test them in my proto paintball goggles. I picked this one as the winner because it was more compact than the other and I didn't need the extra loud volume to keep the engine noise down. Paintball is usually pretty quiet when we're sneaking through the woods, and this closed-helmet headset was loud enough. VOX (voice activated) systems, throat mics etc had limited success in paintball, woodsball so I needed another solution that didn't wire me up. The wireless options just didn't have the range, and nothing I could find on the FRS had a wireless solution. After about 20 small zip ties and careful placement of the wires, I fit perfectly into my proto paintball mask. I wanted the headset to detach from the radio wiring as close to the helmet as possible and it worked perfectly! Now the peg just hangs right next to my right jaw, but everything else fits inside the helmet and away from my face. The earbuds are a bit large, but the actual speaker portion in the foam is relatively small, allowing me to hear ambient noise directly through the foam without interfering with my gaming experience. The speakers don't even touch my ears - they float about 1/8" above my ear so I can whisper softly and still pick up my voice. The small velcro straps and zipper attached them to my helmet before I attached the speakers with velcro. worked like a charm. I did the same with the adhesive pad that is also used for the microphone. The small vents throughout the mask allowed me to fully route the wires for this headset without getting in my face. small zippers, you won't even notice them. This headset c consists of 3 parts: The microphone and the headphones are on the same wiring harness and connect to a detachable connection after the cable is about 4ft.Wiring harness. Finally the plug , which connects to the radio and connects a 'y' with a headset and a push to talk button, but I had a different absi cht for it. I put it on the tactical grip of my paintball gun and it landed exactly where I needed it. My index finger of my non-triggering hand lines up with this button, and then the wiring for this button is routed securely under my gun's aftermarket metal cover. The cable comes out the back of the gun right next to the air hose and connects to the radio from there. Now I can stay with one hand on the trigger and the other on the radio button. The great thing about this setup is that I can now hold the radio in my tactical vest on my right shoulder, the button on my pistol, and the button on my pistol. The headset is securely attached to my helmet. But between rounds I can unbuckle the gun and also unbuckle the helmet so I can take everything off and not have to deal with a wiring split. Everything is compact, reliable, the sound is excellent. I tested everything on the lowest volume and I hear crystal clear, but outside of the helmet no one can talk on the radio. I can whisper at a minimum volume and the players on the other end of the walkie-talkie can easily hear me. My entire team will be equipped with this system by spring. Very happy with my results.
