Okay, but there's really no other choice

A bit weak, which is annoying. It works well, but as I said, it breaks easily. One thing that can be helpful is to buy a silver marker and "paint" the arrows so it's easy to figure out how to connect them. However, do not pull on the speaker or microphone. In a pinch we were able to solder the microphone. Now all we have is a pair of extra headphones. I wish there was an alternative that would work with our radios. :(

Pros
  • Boom mic fits snugly on helmet
Cons
  • Neutral

Great for trail communication

This is a great solution for improving communication on the trails. The speakers work well if you place them correctly. Of course, it is best to position the microphone directly in front of your mouth. I only wish the cables were a bit shorter or at least the speaker/mic jack was closer to your helmet so you can install it permanently and not worry about the cables hanging down when not in use. Although the purchase is definitely a good one.

Pros
  • Includes two helmet mounted speakers
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Have these headsets ever been tested in the field?

I tested the headphones by fitting them into closed helmets. Even when I was standing in an absolutely quiet room, I could hardly hear the conversation on either side. They will NEVER work between riders at any speed. I tested this again with a Midland radio on one end and a helmet mounted headset on the other end. The radio picked up the conversation perfectly from the helmet headset. So the problem isn't with the microphone, it's with the speakers. If you can figure out a way to connect theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Boom mic fits snugly on helmet
Cons
  • Some minor issues

I really wanted to like it. But I don't -- useless

We got them for our ATV full face helmets. Installation was easy. Simply attach the Velcro to the PTT button on the handlebars and hide the very thin ear cups in the helmet. They fit almost every helmet, even if there is no gap between the ears and the helmet. Here's the difference between my review and reviews from people who liked the product. When pulled over with the ATV off and I listened very carefully with no one talking in the background. then I could hear what the station was sayingโ€ฆ

  • electronics

  • high price

Pretty good accessories

I read all the other reviews before buying and was a bit worried about the quality. So far, so good. I use this device to talk between cyclists and my partner can hear me very well. He has an AutoCom and I'm using a Midland radio. All I really wanted was a helmet mic and a PPT button. I modified the device by cutting off half of the connector from the headphone and speaker jacks so I can use my own iEarz headphones that fit. I found a mono to stereo output adapter at Radio Shack for a few bucks

Pros
  • CB and talkback radios
Cons
  • Very expensive

Learned from my own bitter experience.

Basically, this is my bad experience. I connected this setup to a pair of Midland LXT-276 radios (I think). These are cheap radios and they don't have a volume control (that I can find). One of the headset speakers I received is intermittent (works less than 50% of the time). With no volume control and only one speaker running less than 50% of the time, it was almost impossible to hear anything at high speeds. Anyone who has considered this setup: 1) Use at least one radio with enough volumeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Accessories
Cons
  • I will be silent

Ideal for paintball goggles

I took this headset and the open face headset to test them in my proto paintball goggles. I picked this one as the winner because it was more compact than the other and I didn't need the extra loud volume to keep the engine noise down. Paintball is usually pretty quiet when we're sneaking through the woods, and this closed-helmet headset was loud enough. VOX (voice activated) systems, throat mics etc had limited success in paintball, woodsball so I needed another solution that didn't wire meโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Wearable AV
Cons
  • Available in white only
