Not as expected compared to same sized one offs

I fitted this to my Jeep Rubicon Unlimited to protect the tire and door from an impact from another vehicle, I was unable to open the rear door with it standard spare wheel. I had a separate 2" lift ball mount installed with a separate ball and was able to open the tailgate with no problem. I thought it would be cleaner because the ball is welded on, but it didn't work.
