Review on πŸ’Ύ Inateck FE2004 2.5 Hard Drive Enclosure: USB 3.0 Case for External Hard Drives, UASP Support, Up to 5Gbps Transfer Speed by Thimothy Purnell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The most portable 2.5 inch body and great performance!

I *LOVE* this hard drive! I have literally dozens of external drives that I use in addition to the small SSD in my 2015 Macbook Pro for convenient backup or just to get data faster than a USB drive, I usually buy more expensive multi-port aluminum cases ranging from $80-$150, but this time I needed an ultra-light and ultra-small drive because I need to take it everywhere I'm hoping for one M.2 configuration. , but M.2 external drive enclosures aren't ready for prime time just yet. I took a chance on this Inateck case and was blown away! It's incredibly thin and light! The drive fits in, but my 850 Evo SSD fits in nicely and leaves room! in my huge aluminum suitcases. And I really like the tool-less design - who knew screws were so unnecessary. Inserting and removing drives is so easy that it becomes a handy tool to easily copy discs or temporarily convert them to USB 3. And at this insanely low price, you can afford to stock up on extra accessories. The performance was the best in my opinion. I've seen these types of mini USB 3.0 - the ones with a flat curved connector. I consistently got around 247 MB/s reading and 242 MB/s writing. For comparison, the same drive has a read/write speed of about 300 MB/s via eSATA-6000. In fact, this enclosure has the highest performance I've ever seen on USB 2.0, which unfortunately is NOT much, but many USB 3.0 enclosures are absolutely terrible on USB 2.0. I get about 35MB/s read / 28MB/s write, again to hit the USB 2.0 standard's maximum. Not metal, but not cheap plastic either. And with an SSD, it always feels cool. I highly recommend this case. One caveat is that this is my first day of heavy use and some users have reported long-term issues. I will update this review if things falter later.

Pros
  • Superspeed USB 3.0: Supports baud rates up to 5 digits. Up to ten times faster than USB 2.0. USB 2.0/1 backward compatible 1 connection
Cons
  • No power
