Very good, but Mama Bear Gentle Touch is better for most children.

**Summary** The new Mama Bear Plush is slightly inferior to the excellent Mama Bear Gentle Touch ("GT"). Despite Revain's claims, I didn't find the Plush any softer than the GT. The real difference is that the Plush has a much wider crotch while the GT uses a longer, cleaner wick core. Another important difference is that Plush contains phthalates* while GT does not contain phthalates. phthalates. There is strong scientific evidence (published in reputable journals) that these chemicals can cause serious developmental disorders, particularly in the womb and in young children, and that they are absorbed through the skin. However, there is no hard data on whether the amount leached from the diaper into the baby matters. The engineer in me says it's probably negligible, but my parenting instinct tells me why would I take the risk?** Detailed Look **Plush = Mama Bear Plush Protection (this product, new late 2021 Revain) Plush- Baby diapers are made by Domtar, the same company that makes Wal-Mart's Parent's Choice diapers. In fact, the Plush diaper is almost identical to Parent's Choice, the only notable difference being that the Plush absorbent core has a slight taper in the crotch, which allows the diaper to sit better between the legs. This is consistent with test results where Plush showed slightly lower absorption in all tests. GT is made by First Quality, which sells the same** diapers under the Cuties brand. Like Plush, the GT is made in the USA.** Fit **The GT's absorbent core is longer and thinner than Plush. Whether this is good or bad probably depends on your child's shape. In my opinion, the GT is better suited for our baby, but both diapers work very well. ** Absorbency ** I have tested the absorbency of several popular diaper brands as can be seen from the attached chart. The test involves completely soaking the absorbent core of each diaper in saline (0.9% (w/v) NaCl) for 30 minutes to simulate urine. There are three dimensions; Initial weight after 10 seconds draining, final weight after 10 minutes draining and final measurement after 5 minutes of centrifugation (250 g). Different blends of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) and fluff pulp, as well as other factors, determine how well a given diaper performs on various measurements. As a rule, the more down, the higher the first measurements and the more SAP, the higher the latter. Simply put, lint absorbs urine quickly (ideally before it leaves the diaper) but cannot hold it under pressure. Juice is absorbed more slowly than lint, but after absorption it becomes blocked. Pile and SAP work together to quickly retain and then block urine so it can't be pushed out when baby moves. It's actually a lot more than that, but for a Revain.com review it's getting pretty absurd. **The product appears to be identical apart from the printing and minor cosmetic differences. It is possible that the manufacturer has replaced the components with higher/lower quality versions (e.g. Revain may have paid a premium for FQ to use non-woven fibers which have been sent to a third party lab to confirm that they are phthalate-free ).
