2009 Civic coupe, works great for the price

So, quick review, great bang for the buck. If you don't have an upgraded factory unit with a built in amplifier, this would be easy. I also bought a Carplay USB dongle and I'm glad I did! The analog terrestrial radio is fast enough, the reversing camera is great, with the optional camera (connects to the rear brake light to provide voltage to automatically turn on the reversing camera when you put reverse gear). This feature was very good as on the coupé and is difficult to see from the raised rear window. The google play store works, I downloaded a few apps and they worked BUT slowly. too slow for me Luckily my work phone is an iPhone and with the optional car key this radio is AMAZING! No lag, decent sound etc. I used a dongle for Andriod Auto with my personal phone and I didn't like the look so just use my iphone and auto play or personal android phone via bluetooth. The right car and the finish were great! Since I needed a light to show if the airbag light was on, I mounted it behind the air vents on this radio. Now I see a light there when the airbag is off. You can do this if your car doesn't have digital air conditioning. I had a factory amp box in my car so I knew it wasn't designed to work with it, but I bought it anyway and figured I'd come up with something since I'm an IT guy. It "worked" when I plugged it in, in the sense that the tones came out but were heavily distorted above volume 3, despite the volume being low. So I cut and spliced the wires on the harness bypassing the amp but still wasn't happy with the quality so I bought all new speakers, a subwoofer and some amps and now I'm very happy with the sound. I would like to see if I can get an external DAC for this as I bet I can use it to improve the sound even more. But yeah, that's how a $150 radio designed to replace a failed factory unit turned into a system upgrade costing hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Sigh. I spend a lot of time in my car so it's worth it. If I could do it again, I could spend a little more for a higher spec head unit. It has an Allwinner chipset with 2GB of RAM. These are useful but slow-opening apps, similar to what you'd get on a cheap Android tablet. Given the extremely low price of this device, I definitely give it 5 stars for what you get. Be sure to check out some YouTube videos on how to access all the settings if you're interested. I used the password 123456 and was able to enter advanced settings. I turned the main amp volume down and got a cleaner (but slightly quieter) sound than the default they set, also set the boot screen options to show the Honda logo on boot, and so on. I haven't been able to figure out the developer option password yet. Meh, well worth the price and a significant upgrade from the factory!
