I bought this for my son because he used a sponge that is worn out and frankly not that hygienic. When he first tried this afro twist brush, it was right after washing his hair, so it didn't work because her hair was too wet. In some of the tutorials I watched I told him to just dampen his hair a bit with the product and it worked great!
