Review on 📼 Sony SLV-799HF High-Fidelity VCR by Rick Everett

The business VHF station I record every day has switched to a different, weaker VHF channel. I had to install a heavy-duty, commercial-grade Winegard outdoor antenna. After installation, this weak UHF channel was clear enough on my TV. However, my 6 year old GE 4 mono head unit was in very poor condition so I had to replace it. The Sony SLV-799HF had a lot of interference on channel 4 or just didn't work well with my 2 year old Sharp stereo TV. When I used RCA cables the picture was clear. If your TV doesn't have RCA inputs, I don't recommend this VCR. But even with the RCA inputs, the weak UHF channel was WORSE on the Sony than on my GE. I tried using Sony's manual search function for the UHF channel, but that didn't work. Since it didn't pick up the new UHF business channel well, I swapped it out (after about 2 hours) without checking playability. If you need to pick up a weak UHF station with a lot of signal noise, the Toshiba M-765 is a good model. The Toshiba M-765 delivers a very clear picture even with a UHF channel with only 3KW transmission power. You can also check out the Panasonic PV-9664. All of these models are similar in price.
